Fair Testing Our Cars

We have been learning about Forces.  At the moment we are learning about FRICTION.  We know that friction can make things go fast or slow.  Today we made some Mobilo Cars and tested them on different surfaces to see how they went.  Our testing showed that smooth surfaces made our cars go further because there was not much friction and the rough surfaces made our cars not go very far at all, some of the rough surfaces even made our cars crash!
Here's some of our thoughts after all the testing was finished and we looked at our results...

What we found interesting:
  • pushing the cars fast
  • pushing along the pavers and watching the car bump
  • building the cars
What didn’t surprise us:
  • that it didn’t go very good on the bark
  • that the car didn’t go very fast at all
  • because the bark was all bits and pieces, it made it crash
  • it went fast on the concrete
What did surprise us:

  • that it went well on the concrete
  • that my car didn’t go fast even on the smooth floors
  • that my car went really fast and far on the lino

How many JellyBeans in the Jam Jar?

This week our sound and letter 'j'. We had a competition to see who could guess the number of JellyBeans Mrs Jeffries had put in a Jam Jar. The number was between 20 and 100. It was so exciting counting them all out in groups of 10. Azarie was the winner, with the exact number of 74! Lots of kids had guesses that were close too though!

Making Roimata's Worms

This week we made worms and Mrs Jeffries said we can make 6 worms each and two fishing rods each too.  To make it you need these things, you need to get a pipe-cleaner and glue eyes on and use two eyes if you want.
Then you get a straw and put wool through and glue a magnet on and you can't put them in your mouth because..............you will get a sore tummy.  You can't put a battery in your mouth either and we made a box to put the worms and fishing rods in.
