T4 - LAST WEEK!

Monday - Thursday 9.30-11:00 We have Swimming at the ASB.

We have our remaining swimming lessons this week.  Our lesson is at 10am so if you are free to walk down and back with us and help out with changing and making sure children all have their gear then please feel free.  Join us at the classroom no later than 9:30am and we will be back at 11am.

Monday - Children will get their Kristkindle.

This year all classes are entering into the spirit of Kristkindle. It is a time for each of us to do something good, in secret for someone else. We have adapted the idea to make it appropriate for school.
The following is the essence of what Kristkindle is all about at Saint Paul’s:
•Each child chooses a name from the ‘hat’ and keeps it secret from
Monday 16th to Friday 20th December. The person who picks the name out of the hat becomes their Kristkindle for that time.
A Kriskindle does kind acts for their chosen secret person. These acts could include: Putting down their chair in the morning, saying an especially welcoming good morning or warm goodbye, writing them a little message or poem on a card or piece of paper, drawing a picture or making a card and leaving it in the cubby hole or desk, remembering their secret person in their prayers or organising and playing a game together.
We would appreciate your support in suggesting ways of being kind and especially encouraging your child to keep it a secret. Please don’t send a lolly every day. There will be a gift giving on Friday 20th December at the end of term. All gifts will be collected in a special place in the classroom and opened on this day. They will need to be wrapped with the name of the person who is to receive the gift on the outside and the name of the Kristkindle on the inside. We strongly encourage home made gifts but if you buy a gift it must NOT be more than $5.
Kristkindle is about kind actions as part of our preparation for Christmas. It is an Advent activity. It is very important that the children understand that it is more the kind deeds each day, not the gift at the end.

Tuesday - Family Picnic on the Lawn and Talent Quest Finals - From 5:30pm

Come join us with your picnic tea between 5:30 and 6:30pm at school on the grass.  Or from 6:30pm for the Talent Quest Finals and Carol Singing time.  Bring your Santa hat, deck chair or picnic rug. Children are not expected to wear school uniform.

There are NO Lunch orders this week! Subway or Sushi

Friday - Last day!!!

We have Kristkindle giving and then make our way to the church for our end of year mass at 11am.  Children can go home from the church but please make sure you let me know so that I can say goodbye and know who has left.  Thanks!

Wednesday is our School Athletics

This is held at the Saxton Athletic Grounds.  The Junior part of the day is only in the morning.  We begin with sprints and then move into our athletic rotation.  Please fell free to come along and watch.  The 'Coffee Guy' is usually at this event too some bring some change for a flat-white :) The Junior children will be taken to and from the grounds by bus as we found last year the walk to just be a bit much for them on top of their events!  Children can wear their PE gear to school and remain in it for the day.  They will need to have their hats and please apply sunscreen before they arrive at school (some will be available at the grounds for reapplying).  If it is a cold day they can wear some black track-pants (no jeans) over their shorts and their school polar-fleece.  It's a good idea to pack a bit of extra food to eat and plenty of water.

NO SUSHI LUNCH ORDER ON WEDNESDAY!

T3 - Week 3:

General Notices:
Hi all! Sorry for the delay in putting this weeks notices up. I had a super busy weekend celebrating my mum's 60th Birthday as so spent all my time catching up with family and friends :)

This week is Maths Week so I have put a link to some Maths week games on the kidszone page.  You will need to sort through and help you child select ones that they can play ie the ordering game.
It is also Disability Awareness Week this week.  Our Young Vinnies have organised some things for the kids to do.  Today we will be having a look at some of the types of Disabilities people have and what types of things they use to support them.

As many of you may be aware, Rayah had an eye operation last week.  I saw her at the end of the week and she is doing well but they are unsure as to when she will be returning to school at this stage for safety reasons. We decided as a class in might be nice to send her a care package.  Please encourage your child to make a card, draw a picture, make a prayer card or write her a letter.  Also if you would like to put a small something in for her to keep her busy while she is off school please feel free ie, a small colouring book, some pens, a chocoalte bar.  We would like to send this home on WEDNESDAY afternoon.

Thursday: The whole school will be going to the church for our Assumption of Mary Mass.  This begins at 11am.  You are more than welcome to come along.  Ms Wightman will be walking the children down with our buddy class but you are more than welcome to meet us as school and walk with us if you like.

T3 - Week 2:

General Notices:
Hopefully you all received the notice I sent home last week explaining that Mrs Jan Dorman is now working in our classroom along side me for this term to support the extra number of 5 year olds we have coming into our school.  With one week down this is already proving to be a great advantage with all the children as they have 2 teachers to call on!
This term our topic is FORCES.  We are looking at how force is created by different actions.
I am going to be adding a 'Kidzone' page to the blog as there are a number of online activities that the children have been working on in class.  One of those is 'StudyLadder'.  This is an online interactive site that I can set specific tasks for the children to complete.  Most of these will be in the areas of maths and sounds of the week.  Get your child to show you what they do as many of them have been giving it a go in class.

Term 2

T2 - Week 9:

This week is Saint Paul's Feast week!  There is lots happening...

Monday: Strike Concert - this is a fun event that we will be going over to Salisbury school for (to give us some more space than in Takahe.  It begins at 10am and goes for an hour so we will have a little snack before heading over and then a late morning tea when we get back.  No money required this is paid for from the Parent Contribution Fund.

Tuesday: Feast Day Mass at the Parish 11am.  It would be lovely if you could join us. Also we are having a FREE LUNCH - our Parent Liaison group are putting together lunch for every student in the school to celebrate our special day.  I suggest you send your child with a bit of extra lunch incase they are feeling extra hungry.

Wednesday: Wacky Wednesday Mufti Day, gold coin donation (going towards our multi function space).  This is the launch of our Boasting our Blogs week - make a comment on some of your child's class posts on the blog from Wednesday to Tuesday next week and and go in the draw to win an iPad mini for your family!  Also come along to our Device Sharing night held in Takahe at 7pm on.  This is a roving conference style event where you will get to see what our kids are up to across the school - very inspiring stuff!

Thursday: Chalk art competition.  The students will be grouped across the school to take part in this Art activity in the afternoon.  Their mission is to portray a part of Saint Paul's story in a small square on the walkways throughout the school using chalk.

Friday: Hoiho Liturgy to finish our celebration week!

Phew!

T2 - Week 8:

There are a couple of things for this week but next week is the big one, being our Feast Day week.  Events include a whole school Mass on the Tuesday, Lunch provided for the kids, fun class and whole school activities, STRIKE concert etc. Have a look at the school calendar for what and when it is all happening!

Tuesday - Our class is attending the community Mass at the Richmond Parish at 11:30am.  If you free to come and walk with the children we will be leaving school at 11:10 and returning at the end of mass (usually 12pm).  Cathy Wightman will be taking the children as this is durning my DP release time.

Tuesday - I have CRT in the afternoon slot 1:20-2:50.

Tuesday - 3-way conferences with the following children: Alice, Caleb, Rayah, Ronin, Emma, Bojana, Rosa, Luke

T2 - Week 6:

General Notices:

There have been a lot of nasty colds going around.  Lots of the children have been experiencing headaches, tiredness and a sore throat.  I was off with this myself last week and it is not much fun at all.  Please encourage your child to keep their socks and shoes on during the day (I will reinforce this at school as well).  Remember the kids can bring their slippers to keep their toes warm in class.  Thanks to those of you who have been reading these notices, please keep spreading the word that this is a great place to visit to see what's coming up and also what we have been up to!

Tuesday - I have CRT in the afternoon slot 9-10:30.

Wednesday - I have a Lead Teachers meeting for eLearning in the afternoon slot 1:20 - 2:50. The children will have P.E. with Mrs Stacey Ashley.

T2 - Week 6:

General Notices:

Thanks to those of you that have brought in a box of tissues, it certainly is the season for the sniffles! If you are wondering what I am talking about please see last weeks general notices.

Feel like you want to know more about what is happening... check out the school calendar link above, also our Facebook page - you don't need to be a member of Facebook to view this, it is an open page!

This week from Tuesday we are going to be starting to make our ROBOTS!!!! If you can come in and help with hot-glueing etc let me know.  It's going to be chaotic fun so extra 'adult' hands will be welcomed! This will be happening in the afternoon blocks between 1:45-2:30ish.

Monday - I have CRT in the afternoon slot 1:20 - 2:50.

T2 - Week 5:

General Notices:
I hope you are all having a nice long weekend!  With the weather getting colder now I have told the kids that they are allowed to bring along some slipper to school to keep their toes warm while they are in the classroom.  Please make sure they are clearly labeled with their name.  If they are a spare pair they can keep them in the black box in the classroom.  Also next time you are doing the shopping could you add a box of tissues to your list and send them along.  If everyone donates one box we should have enough to cover the siffles over the winter months.  There is not enough space for each child to have their own labeled box around the classroom so I just keep them up on my shelf and we all share one box at a time.  Thanks for your support in this.

Thursday - School Cross Country at Rabbit Island.  Your child will need to wear their school PE uniform but with the colder weather I suppest you also pack some warm track pants and and extra jacket.  We are running the events slightly differently this year so that children are not just sitting around waiting.  They will be involved in a rotation of activities as well as having their main event - their cross country run.  If you are able to help out on the day with being a marshal please contact the school office asap.

T2 - Week 4:

Tuesday
 - I have CRT in the morning block so the children will be with Mr Phillips from 9 till 10:30.

Friday - As Mrs Ashley is away for most of this week we are now having our class assembly this Friday rather than in 2 weeks time.  Feel free to come along and have a look - 9am Friday 31st May.

General Notices:
 - Mrs McKay had her baby on Wednesday last week.  It is a wee girl: Gabriella Florence McKay!

 - We now have plenty of boxes for our Robot projects.  We still need the extra bits... bottle tops, buttons, tin lids, anything really that looks like it could be used and painted.

Miss Sayers will begin full-control in the classroom for 3 weeks. (I will still be within the class for most of this period)

T1 - Week 4

Swimming

All this week we have swimming from 11:30 till 12.  Feel free to come down and have a look or better yet check out the link on the home page and sign up to come and help us!

Reading this week

Due to swimming taking up a lot of our time this week the children will mostly be bringing home readers they have previously had.  It is still important for you to listen to your child read these, even though they many not need any help at all.  Remember to keep filling in their little yellow reading log books as well with any reading they do as this will help them get to their different rewards.

Monday

I am at an eLearning course all day Monday so the children will follow their normal programme with Beth Currie.

Tuesday 9-10:30am

Angie Hampson (one of our teachers) will be taking Piwakawaka class for their normal programme as I have been given some time to complete the finishing touches to our brand new school website that we are hoping will go live that afternoon.  This has been a big project that I have been working on over the summer break and am pleased to be getting some time to get it all finalised and out into the big wide world!

T1 - Week 3 - Lots Happening this Week!

Monday - Swim Magic Notice

Please look out for the Swim Magic notice in your child's bag on Monday.  This is to help the teachers at the ASB Aquatic Centre to group children correctly for swimming.  Please return the form by Wednesday as swimming starts next week.

On Tuesday between 9-10:30 I have CRT.

See last weeks notices below for information on what CRT is.  As my slot this week is first thing in the morning I will still meet the children as usual after the bell on the mat to do the roll and then take them over to Takahe.

Also on Tuesday I will be introducing the class to Nicola Sayers.

Nicola is a Student Teacher who will be completing her final placement in our class commencing the 4th of March for 5 weeks.

On Wednesday at 10am we have our 'Welcome Liturgy / Powhiri' at the Richmond Parish.

We will be officially welcoming lots of new students to our school, including some from our class.

On Thursday afternoon, Beth Currie will be teaching in our class.

As I am a Lead Teacher for eLearning in our school I am required at times to attend local meetings, our first being this Thursday afternoon.  Beth will carry on with the normal learning activities planned for the afternoon.  Beth was previously a teacher at our school, teaching in the new entrant classroom.

T1 - Week 2

This week on Tuesday between 11-12:30 I have CRT.

CRT stands for Classroom Release Time.  This is given to all full time teachers for 'Educational Purposes'.  Usually I am still somewhere in the school, but occasionally I may be visiting other schools or attending meetings off site.  So that the students get quality learning during this time we have John Phillips who takes our students for music during teacher's CRT slots.

On Wednesday we have our Ash Wednesday Liturgy at 11am here at school.

Here is a short YouTube clip to help you know what Ash Wednesday is.

We will be talking about this in class and the students will take part in a Liturgy held at school where they will all receive ashes in the Sign of the Cross on their foreheads.
